Pharrell Dotes On Frank Ocean In New Interview, Says He's "Incredible”

Rapper and producer Pharrell Williams explain more for upcoming singer Frank Ocean in his interview with Vibe Magazine.
Pharrell referred to the singer as “incredible” and even went so far as to refer to Ocean as the “black James Taylor.” “Frank Ocean is incredible. We worked together for a long time. Frank Ocean to me is a singer but his album itself is incredible,” Pharrell revealed. The producer went on to explain that he met Ocean at the Coachella Music Festival in California this year and ended up working with the artist after their meeting. “We met at Coachella. I told him, ‘Man, I like what you do. Let’s do something.’ And we ended up working. He’s super talented. He is to me. He’s like the black James Taylor,” said Pharrell. “He’s lyrical. He’s got a great perspective and super sick melodies. I haven’t seen anybody bob and weave through chords with such catchy melodies in a long time. That’s why I like working with him.” Pharrell is said to be working with Ocean on his debut album.

Carrie Underwood Used Her Wedding Anniversary Weekend to ‘Veg Out’.

Good news to Carrie Underwood fans. If it feels like the ‘Before He Cheats’ singer has been under the radar lately, that’s not because she’s in hiding. She’s still hard at work on her new album. But with her busy schedule and her husband Mike Fisher’s equally as busy hockey calendar, it seems that the couple loses out on quality time together — so when their one-year anniversary rolled around, they used the day to just breathe.
My husband actually had shoulder surgery earlier this summer so we really couldn’t go too far away because he needed to be home for physical therapy like every single day,” Underwood revealed, mapping out the timeline for her wedding anniversary, which was July 10. “Our anniversary actually fell on a weekend so we were able to go to a really nice spot nearby Nashville and sort of just veg out — and we ate a lot and just had a nice, nice weekend. We are glad that Underwood got some time to rest, because a new album is calling. The singer explained in her red carpet interview with RumorFix, shot in Los Angeles., why exactly she was spending time in the star-studded city. “Right now I’m working on my next album … I’ve been doing a few shows here and there … and I’ve been writing a little bit,” she spilled. The next album has been a long time coming. Underwood released her last record, ‘Play On,’ in 2009, and ‘Carnival Ride’ two years before in 2007. If she stays on track with that schedule, we should be getting a freshly packed Underwood record by the end of the year.

Ray J and Fabolous Fight Footage Leaks, 50 Cent Speaks Out Ray J and Fabolous.

Ray J and Fabolous have each shared their accounts of what happened in Las Vegas over the weekend. Now TMZ has obtained footage from the fight that occurred backstage at Fab’s concert at the Palms. In the iPhone-filmed clip, 50 is seen standing against the wall before Ray J confronts Fab.
There is a scuffle and exchange of words, but it’s difficult to make out exactly what happened. Before the footage leaked, 50 checked in with Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97, offering his take on their showdown. He claims Ray J tapped Fabolous on the shoulders and swung at him, but Fab wasn’t hurt. “There was a swing, but it didn’t land on nothing, so you can’t call it a punch,” he said. “Fab is looking at him like he’s crazy,” added 50, whose new album is due in November. “He said, ‘Whoa. Have you lost your mind right now?’” The G-Unit mogul corroborated with what Fabolous said earlier, hinting that Ray J may have been on something. “I think Ray J had a little bit of juice in him.” 50 stepped in to break it up before things escalated further. “I pushed Fab and his brother Paul to the side. It wasn’t really a good look.

Thurz Makes "L.A. Riot" A Limited-Time Free Download

Fans were shocked earlier this year when news broke that budding California duo U-N-I decided to call it quits. But the break-up didn't stop member Thurz; the Inglewood emcee struck it big on the dolo with his politically charged and critically acclaimed debut L.A. Riot.

Now, in a recent interview with the Smoking Section, Thurz explained why he and former U-N-I partner Y-O decided to lay the group to rest. He said that the group's relationship soured over their different artistic directives and that he felt he was being musically hampered as a result. Still, Thurz says that rocking with Y-O was a fruitful and wholly worthwhile experience.

"There were arguments [between us] but it never got physical. It wasn’t necessary to ever get to that point," he said. "It was just like on some grown man shit like, 'You’re not really trying to do this and your lifestyle is consuming your life.' I’m trying to make a statement in music and be the best out here. Cats are putting out music and I know we’re better than them and you’re really not trying to step up to the plate and I had to let the word know. A little while after that, we were meeting up to discuss where U-N-I was going and I had to pretty much be real like 'Your raps…you’re not holding up your end on the lyrical side. I know you want to be this unique artist and all that but to succeed as this group, you have to step it up lyrically and ditch the cookie-cutter shit.' So after that, we just decided to break right there. The respect wasn’t there friendship-wise and definitely not artistically."

He added, "It was a long time coming honestly. People were constantly asking me the same questions 'What’s up with U-N-I? When does Kings Come Marching come out? Where’s the new music?' So I had to write the record and put it out. I just gave people enough to where they would understand...I wouldn’t even be at this point artistically or mentally if it wasn’t for that experience. It help me build up by networks and my net worth and I learned how to make better decisions as an independent now. I’m grateful for the experience."

Thurz also spoke on his recent debut project and how he came up with the concept for the record. He said that the album came out of the break-up with Y-O, with the 1992 Los Angeles riots serving as a metaphor for his new solo career. Ultimately, however, he said the LP took a different form when he began to reflect on the '92 riots and the incident of police brutality against Rodney King that sparked them.

"The first song I recorded was 'Los Angeles,' where I had this idea to have fans call in and give their take on what the city was to them," he explained. "Then I sent it to a few DJs just to get responses and they all loved it. They thought it as a dope Hip-Hop record and loved the flow, the beat and the concept. Tomas was doing research on the riots and I lived through it. I wasn’t involved in looting or anything but I remember seeing buildings that were burned down and police in riot gear and mobs of Black folks."

"So then it hit me like bam! L.A. Riot. That would be a dope album title because it kind of represents what I have to do at this moment. And that’s to burn down this old image to really let the world know who I am as a solo artist. After I stuck with the name, we were like, 'We can’t go further without paying homage to the Rodney King, the beating and trial that lead to the whole incident.' So that’s where that song came from. Tracks started coming in left and right and it was a beautiful experience and it just created itself from scratch.

Kid CuDi Speaks On New Album "Wizard,” Not Wanting To Do Features

Kid CuDi has been at work on his upcoming rock album Wizard, his project with Dot Da Genius under the name 2 Be Continuum. In Complex magazine's October/November cover story, Cudders explained that the album spawned from flushing the drugs out of his system and wanting to learn an instrument as a hobby.

“I always wanted to play guitar. I tried it as a child and failed, tremendously. I tried to play the trumpet, the fucking clarinet, violin. Back then, when you tried that in school they would want you to read sheet music. It wasn’t about, ‘Can you play by ear?’ I’m not one of those musicians,” he said. “So I picked up the guitar last fall and I started fiddling with it. It came kind of natural to me. I’m not saying that the first time around I was shredding riffs. But I was able to pick it up and pick, and go up and down the neck, and find melodies. I was like, ‘Shit, I want to just make jams with this instrument.’ It was something that I took very seriously.”

He also explained why he has scaled back on contributing verses to others’ projects, stating that he’s more than willing to hop on tracks with Jay-Z and Kanye West but is picky about other guests.

“I'm not interested in being someone’s look. And that’s what it is nowadays—a look. It’s hard for me to charge people, because I do my stuff for free. I do all my stuff with Jay and Kanye on the house, because it’s a brotherhood. Besides them, I can’t really hit nobody with a fee, because then that’s a dispute. What I want to charge, motherfuckers might not have a budget for!” said CuDi, who is also collaborating with Wale on a new cut. “On top of that, it’s a commitment when you do a song with somebody. Like, ‘We need a single, we need the video.’ And then—like I said in the last interview, being that I don’t fuck with most people musically—it’s tough for me to want to bend and be a part of people’s projects.”

T.I. Removed From Prison, Back In Halfway House

UPDATE: Tip has been released from prison and will serve the rest of his sentence in a halfway house.

Upon his release from prison on August 31st, T.I. announced that he would be filming a reality show for VH1 - but that’s supposedly the reason that he was forced back to jail.

According to TMZ, prison officials believed he had people from his reality show on his luxury bus that transported him from jail to his halfway house. Documents state that Tip was only allowed to travel with his wife and was not permitted to conduct business on the bus.
Officials claim that two VH1 producers and his manager were on the bus discussing business. Despite the producers and manager submitting letters stating the opposite, the prison did not believe them.
Tip is currently scheduled for release from prison on September 29th.
[September 8]
UPDATE: According to TMZ, T.I. was just released from prison to serve the rest of his sentence in his halfway house.
"We have good reason to believe that this favorable result was reached because of the proactive and assertive approach taken to protect T.I.'s rights by providing B.O.P officials and the media with reliable and accurate information and that T.I. did not intend to violate his transfer furlough or any other B.O.P rules en route from the prison facility in Arkansas to the halfway house in Atlanta," said his lawyer, Steve Sadow.
Tip will complete his sentence on September 29th, and will remain under supervised probation for one year.
