Big Sean’s Grandmother Approves of His Rap Career

Big Sean

Before Big Sean became a big deal in rap, he was a prep student who spit rhymes for fun on the side. But when the Detroit rhyme-spitter decided to put college on hold for a career in music, his grandmother was less than pleased with his decision. Luckily, things have worked out well for the rapper.

“My grandmother is proud of me now that I’m actually doing something with my life,” Big Sean told MTV. “She was a real advocate for school but I didn’t want to go school, I wanted to do music. I had a full scholarship to go to Michigan State. I graduated with a 3.7 [grade point average] from high school but I put all of that aside to do music. To her, education was a way to a better life, but she’s happy now and my family is happy.”
As for working with Kanye West, Big Sean is appreciative of his mentor’s input when it comes to his career and music. “I’ll always have to go to Kanye for approval. He’s the boss,” he says. “But he lets me be creative and do what I wanna do.”

Among Big Sean’s future plans include a new mixtape, touring and a cooking show. Really, a cooking show? Apparently, Big Sean is a big chef in the kitchen. Who knew?
In the meantime, check for Big Sean on Wiz Khalifa‘s Rolling Papers tour at a city near you. Also, be on the lookout for Big Sean’s new video for ‘Marvin & Chardonnay,’ which was directed by Hype Williams.
